The supervision continues.
One of our branch churches’ Pastor, after having reached more than 300 cells, decided to conduct a thorough evaluation. He found a lot of distortions and inconsistencies with the model.
Given the circumstances, he decided to implement a correction plan that lasted for nearly a year. During that time the leaders were trained once again and the supervision structure was changed. The Pastor estimates that when restarting the work he will do so with about 100 cells. That is, a third of what he had before.
The reason why a model may pick up a number of deformities resides in the lack of supervision on a permanent basis. Moreover, it is a mistake to think that the model has been healed with these corrections and new training. At first all things will be in order. But if no detailed supervision is applied, the same defects will be repeated.
This actual experience shows the important value of supervision. Nothing can take its place. Therefore, not only supervision must be held but it must be strengthened and perfected. The first supervisor is the Pastor himself. His dedication to the cell work will be determining for things to go well. The greater involvement of the Pastor, the greater the certainty that things will go in the right direction there will be.

Cell churches in Brazil.
The past weekend I was invited as keynote speaker at the conference entitled “Passion and Persistence,” organized by Bethany Church in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Bethany Church is a Presbyterian Church that, like many other denominations, has begun to make its transition to the cellular model.
The conference registered a little over a thousand attendees whom for three days received lessons on cells. It’s amazing the interest with which many pastors and leaders received the principles of cell work.
There is no doubt that Robert Lay’s work in Brazil has been outstanding. With such large cities as Rio de Janeiro, the cell model is a key to reach significant evangelist goals. Another factor that attracted the attendee’s attention was the translation to Portuguese of Joel Comiskey’s book on Elim’s history.
“Paixão e Persistencia”, as it is called in Portuguese, is a book that Brazilians acquire with great interest and has made it possible for even very conservative churches as Bethany, to have adopted the cell model and continue to deepen in its study. They are interested not only in numbers but in all the values of fellowship, evangelism and the teaching that the model implies.
Brazil is a fertile ground and the cell model has begun to yield results. At the end of the conference Pastor Josué Rodríguez gave me as a present a clock with a picture of the Maracana Stadium, the largest in the world, as a representation of the purpose that Rio de Janeiro’s churches have to fill it completely one day as testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the country. My desire is that this purpose becomes a reality.

Repeating the basics.
Since cell work is somewhat repetitive, you may think that leaders are prepared once they’ve received their training. But, nothing should be taken for granted. It is important to be dedicated to the patient task of continuous repetition of basic elements on a permanent basis.
This is called feedback. Every certain time all active leaders repeat all over again the learning of the work’s basic elements. This is done every week at a meeting which we call supervision meeting. There, the Zone Pastor reminds the leaders the essence of their work.
Even though it is all about saying the same thing, leaders are always grateful to be taught and reminded of the most important things. Eventually, the District Pastors can organize retreats or other activities in which they also give feedback.
Finally, in the whole church ambit, once a year a Growth Conference exclusively for leaders and supervisors is conducted. Again, the key elements of work are repeated. It is a week, dedicated to feedback on the church’s leadership. The Conference generates a lot of expectation and the leaders’ participation is enthusiastic.
In your church, how do you give feedback?

From one generation to the next.
The 23rd Church Growth International Conference of Seoul Korea’s Church has finished. As always, Pastor Cho shared the Word of God with more than 1,500 participants from 63 countries in the underground Paul Chapel. In this conference, his message focused on the topic of faith. He shared several personal experiences in which he made clear that his life has been a “living crucifixion” to bring blessing to other people.
He shared publicly that he suffers from Parkinson’s disease, but that he is confident that God is healing him. As evidence he raised his hands and showed everybody that he has no longer the tremor that characterizes the disease. This detail is indicative of how his whole life has been: keeping to himself his diseases, conflicts and difficulties in order to stand behind a pulpit and share a message of hope, healing and blessing.
As Abraham was invited by God to see the stars beyond his own tent, Dr. Cho invited all those present not to stay within the limits of their own tents but to look toward God’s stars. He ended his message saying, “Get out of your tent. Look at the stars. Choose one and pursue it.” He then said a prayer of blessing for all of us who were present.
As he concluded his prayer, the attendees spontaneously stood up and cheered Pastor Cho with an unending applause that did not allow the master of ceremonies to continue with the program. After a couple of tries he decided to let the ones present continue with that symbolic and improvised tribute to the father of modern cell movement.
That same night, after thanking the Board of Directors’ members of CGI (Church Growth International) for their presence, he said good bye stating that this has been one of the best conferences. Many of us who were present agreed with him.
Pastor Cho is now 74 years old and is the Pastor Emeritus of Yoido Full Gospel Church. The official Pastor now is Rev. Young Hoon Lee who has been a member of the church since his conversion in 1964 (when the church had 4,000 members). Pastor Lee has taken over most of Cho’s responsibilities. Among them are the financial management and leadership of the church. Pastor Lee preaches also in the Sunday schedules that previously corresponded to Pastor Cho who now preaches only once in a while.
Pastor Lee’s great challenge is to set new goals for the largest church in the history of Christianity. Not such an easy task. What else could be expected from a church like Yoido? At the same time, God is not limited and with this in mind, we can wait patiently for what God will do through Pastor Lee.
Despite being the world’s largest church, the transition from the founding pastor to one of his disciples has occurred smoothly without upheavals–even though human logic says that a man like Pastor Cho can not be so easily replaced. Was the process helped by the discipline and remarkable respect shown by Koreans? Or perhaps it was the slow, democratic process they used to transition the leadership? What do you think?

The key to Yoido’s church growth.
I’m writing this blog from Korea where I have been invited by Pastor David Yonggi Cho to the 23rd Church Growth International Conference which takes place from the October 21-26.
Every time I come to Korea, I visit the Prayer Mountain. I have noticed that of all the people that register for the Conference, relatively few visit the Prayer Mountain. Most people want to see the impressive church building in Yoido and listen to Pastor Cho preach. But you won’t get a complete picture of this phenomenal church until you visit the Prayer Mountain.
An hour away from Yoido, the Prayer Mountain in Osanri is a key to understand the growth of the world’s largest church. Since March 1973, the Prayer Mountain has been open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to all the people who desire to go to pray and fast for one or more days.
Despite the fact that this year I visited the Prayer Mountain a day before the Conference started, I found approximately three thousand people praying in the place’s main auditorium. Another large number can be found praying in the “grottoes of prayer” (tiny single rooms where you can only be on your knees).
The passion of these Korean believers is very noticeable when they pray. They do it with all of their strength and, literally, with all their voice. One lady explained to me that she was completing a 40-day fasting, drinking only water.
Pastor’s Cho personal grotto is in the middle of the trees. He comes to pray every week–especially on Saturdays to prepare for his Sunday sermon.
Why is Pastor Cho’s church the largest church in the world and its outreach impossible to match? You will not find a complete answer without going to Prayer Mountain. It’s only at Prayer Mountain that you’ll understand the incredible prayer power at Yoido and how prayer is a key element in the church’s growth.

God’s work in El Salvador.
This past week, a prestigious institute of public opinion, which belongs to the Universidad Centroamericana (UCA), directed by Jesuit priests, issued a survey on the status of religion in El Salvador. The results are very interesting.
In the first place, 38% of the population identifies itself as Evangelical Christians while another 50% define themselves as Catholics. This means that in the past eleven years the number of evangelicals in El Salvador has doubled. Meanwhile, the number of Catholics has declined.
The evangelicals are members, in their vast majority, of four churches: Assemblies of God, Baptists, Elim and Church of God.
Another interesting fact is that 95.5% of the population claims to believe in God while only 0.5% say they don’t believe in God. 90% of the population of El Salvador affirm that what is written in the Bible should be believed word by word and only 10% believe that it should not be believed.
The vast majority of Salvadorians believe in the existence of life after death, in salvation, heaven, hell, and Satan. Almost all believe in miracles, and most of the people pray more than three times daily. Most are of the opinion that public schools should teach the Gospel.
There is more valuable data, but what I mentioned already tells us that in El Salvador there is a visitation from God and that in the past few years God has produce a strong interest in Himself among the people. This is a ”kairós” moment of God, and we give Him all the praise for what He’s doing. It also represents a huge responsibility for Salvadorian Christians.

Assemblies of God, Baptists, Elim, Church of God.

Mega churches Temptations.

In the same way that there are certain advantages with mega-churches we can not be totally honest without talking about the risks. A mega church’s pastor could end up considering himself as a powerful and a socially influential person. Such are dangerous ideas because they can lead to distance from the servant position that every Pastor should have.

Another danger is the challenge of party politics. A mega church’s pastor can be pursuit by politicians who will want to exploit the influence he has over his church members and society. It can also happen that the Pastor himself is tempted to asset the political flow that his church represents, deciding to change his Ministry for an election position.

The political influence that a mega church can have is almost inevitable. The gospel establishes standpoints on issues such as slavery, injustice, war, corruption, death penalty, abortion, etc. A mega church that defines its position on these issues will be exerting a political action in society.

There is no doubt that the size of a church doesn’t make the message of the Gospel more or less acute in society, but from the human point of view, and only for political reasons, it will cause major concern if it comes from a mega church.

The strengths of a large church.
In its first nine years, Elim church focused its effort in planting new churches. In San Salvador’s metropolitan area (1.5 millions of people), the church established twenty-two branch churches.
However, in 1986 when the transition to a cell church was made, the objective changed and all the effort was focused on building a mega church. The closing of all of the city’s branch churches was part of that effort to concentrate all of its members in one church. All of the pastors of the church plants became zone pastors of the one larger mega cell church.
The reasons for this apparent regression was, as noted by Joel Comiskey, to cause a greater impact on society. Furthermore, it was considered that only by concentrating efforts, mega projects like the purchase of large properties, the construction of an auditorium with thousands of seats, and the purchase of a radio station, could be undertaken. Those investments were so large that it was not possible to reach them unless all the branch churches were joined.
This policy has enabled Elim church to become at the present time the owner of three radio stations, one of them with national coverage. The church also owns a television channel with national coverage. And it has recently acquired 22 acres of property to build its future facilities.
The most important impact, however, is the social one. The church is very well known and has a very strong social influence. In the latest public opinion poll, the Evangelical Church stood out as the institution that generates the most confidence in Salvadoran society (together with the Catholic Church). By contrast, political parties ranked as those in whom the public has the least confidence.
The effort to build a mega church has not neglected the work of planting new churches. I must recognize that planting new churches has not been one of Elim’s priority objectives. Probably the fact that the size of El Salvador is so small has been one of the reasons why we do not consider church planting a key strategy for evangelization at this time. And this is why I believe most of our branch churches are abroad and not in El Salvador.

Adjusting the cell church strategy.
Last week I wrote about the need to make adjustments in the cell model according to the peculiarities of each church. Steve Cordle requested some examples of the adjustments that we have made in El Salvador to fine tune our original South Korea model.
One of the first adjustments we made was the addition of a weekly planning meeting that precedes the cell meeting. In the planning meeting the Christian core of the cell participates in detailed planning of the cell meeting. The core reviews the previous week’s work and then assigns responsibilities for the new week.
Another adjustment was to reduce the time of the training course for new leaders. In Pastor Cho’s case the training course lasts two years. In El Salvador the growth dynamics are much faster which led us to adopt a training course that lasts six months.
We have adjusted the most when it comes to growth goals. We started with a goal of 100% for each quarter. Subsequently a goal of 100% for the year was adopted (not sustainable year after year). Thus, we now assign goals according to the saturation level of each geographical area.
The above are examples of adjustments that have made Elim’s model a very particular case. But there are also adjustments we made in order to resemble to the Korean model. Last year, we adopted for the first time the goals for a five years term. Pastor Cho sets new goals for his church every quinquennium. So today, in El Salvador, each Pastor works with a one-year goal term without losing sight of his quinquennial goal.
Each adjustment has been made in response to a local circumstance. There are methods that work both in Korea and in El Salvador, such as establishing annual and quinquennial goals. But there are other methods that would not work in El Salvador, such as a two years training course. However, the cell work principles are cross-cultural and timeless.
Any comments?

PASO A PASO.

Step by step.

The cell model is not something that is established once and for all. The cell model is susceptible of being improved. Each church must adapt, adjust, determine every aspect that’ll bring as a result an improvement within its context.

Although our model is strongly based on the work of Pastor Cho in Korea and we try faithfully to adhere to his model, that hasn’t stopped us from making adjustments to our own reality. I could say that approximately every three years we are innovating in some way.

Obviously, these innovations do not change the principles or the values of cell work. In our case, it doesn’t even change our attachment to the Korean model. But, it does allow us to achieve the adjustments that make our work more efficient.

Another reason why we must make adjustments is because the society in which the church testifies is also changing. If we are not attentive to the sociological movements the church will soon stop being relevant. That does not mean that the church walks by the world’s rhythm. It only means that the church takes advantage in the best way possible of the new opportunities society offers.

For these reasons, we should not fear to make adjustments or precisions that’ll work in our particular reality. With the help of the Holy Spirit we can mend our nets for a great fishing.

Muchas iglesias llaman a éstas personas ‘coach’.

Supervision and supervisors.

The evangelization work in cells is a method that follows its own guidelines and values. It has its own mechanisms to measure effectiveness. As in any process, cell work should be constantly evaluated.
The evaluation is performed by people who have demonstrated ability in the work and have the grace to encourage others. Many churches call these people “coaches.” At Elim church we call them “supervisors.”
In Spanish there is no other word that has exactly the same meaning as the word “coach.” When we use the word “supervisor,” we are thinking of the functions of a coach. The supervisor ensures the work is done as planned and is empowered with authority to correct any deficiency.
Apparently, this is the same idea that Pastor Cho uses. In Cho’s model, the equivalent of “supervisor” or “coach” is called “Senior Leader.” That is a leader who has reached a higher level and, consequently, can look after and exercise authority over the cell leaders.
“’Coach” is best understood as a person who accompanies and encourages other leaders to do the cell work. Although this may only appear to be a matter of semantics, it is interesting because it exposes the different conceptions of the supervising function in different cell churches.
What is term or concept you use in your church?

The gospel of service.
When we are born into our new life in Christ, we begin to learn like babies. Under those conditions, what ever we are presented with as the Gospel is what the Gospel will be to us.
In a cell church the new converts are immediately incorporated to the leader’s training course. They simply follow the instructions they receive from the church. Therefore, we must not think that new converts will resist to participate in a course that will train them to become new leaders.
When we believe that people might make objections, we are thinking for them. And we’re thinking wrongly. The truth is that they don’t know that the course they are entering will eventually prepare them to be a leader. Besides, even if they knew they would eventually become leaders, they don’t know exactly what it means. Their greatest desire as new believers is to do God’s will. Therefore, they don’t object to serving God as cell leaders.
For these reasons, do not hesitate to incorporate every new believer in the training course. Don’t forget that what ever we present to them as the Gospel, that will be the Gospel to them. Let’s present to them the Gospel of service to God.

APRENDER HACIENDO.

Learn by doing.
Any skill is learned faster when it involves our effort. It is much easier to learn something by doing it than by simply hearing about it. Similarly, cell work is learned more quickly by getting involved, rather than hearing teaching after teaching about it.
For this reason, the leader should provide all the opportunities in his or her power to get people to participate in cell ministry. When that is accomplished, the leader’s task of multiplying groups will increase.
The leader must delegate significant duties to the cell members, opening the door for new leaders to develop. On the contrary, when a leader monopolizes all the functions, it prevents other people from learning to become leaders, hinders the cell multiplication, and will also end up overwhelming the leader.
It is essential to instill in leaders that the main purpose of cell ministry is multiplication. This truth will help them to focus on training new leaders, rather than doing everything. Leaders multiply when they’re allowed to perform leadership roles as part of their training.

When a person concentrates on training new leaders he will soon be an expert in this matter. If all of the leaders do the same, a church can become a strong wave of leaders’ multiplication. The multiplication of leaders precedes the multiplication of cells, and because of that the outreach will be larger. Lets encourage our leaders to focus on being multipliers.

Selecting a new leader.
The leader plays a fundamental role in creating a new leader. The leader’s work should focus on training another person who at the same time becomes a new cell leader.
The first step is to select a person as a candidate. This person must comply with certain conditions: maturity, spirituality, desire to serve the Savior. And of course, each church will also have specific conditions for a new leader.
But what if the leader doesn’t find a person in his cell that complies with these conditions? Well, he should take that person who comes nearer to that ideal and begin to mentor him so that he can reach the requirements he is lacking at the current time.
Even if there is no one in the cell that fulfills the basic requirements, the leader must not give up. On the contrary, he must take one of his cell attendees and begin to work to make him or her a suitable person for leadership. Every leader must be able to mention the name of a person who he is mentoring for leadership. Leaders must be raised up. As Paul says, the leader must experience birth pangs until he sees Christ formed in each Christian (Galatians 4:19).

Leaders that generate new leaders.

The key to multiplying cells is multiplying leaders. To generate new leaders we must count on the important work of the current ones. While the fundamental job of cell members is the evangelization of other people, the key job of cell leaders is to identify potential new leaders.
The cell member sees the cell as an ideal place to evangelize the guests; the leader sees the cell as the ideal place to find a new cell leader candidate. All this will not happen by chance. For a leader to find other potential leaders he must make the decision to become the trainer of a new leader.
Potential leaders will not appear by themselves. They must be discovered, encouraged, directed and trained to become new leaders. I mean, it takes work to train new leaders. That work will be completed only when the leader makes the decision to become a generator of leaders. The first barrier to overcome is the inner one. I’m referring to the natural resistance of doing nothing and hoping that things will happen by themselves.
What do you do to encourage your current leaders to become generators of new leaders?

Goals: How to achieve them.

One of the basic principles about goal setting is that they must be clearly defined. Each person should have complete clarity about what, how, and when the goals are pursued. One way to clarify the goal is to constantly repeat it. The more you mention the goal; the more probabilities there will be for people to actually fulfill it.
However, even if we have a very clear definition of the goal and a passionate desire to reach it, we still might miss the goal unless we also have the proper means to achieve the goal. Therefore, a a large part of achieving the goal is to have the proper means to accomplish the goal and then to faithfully progress toward the goal. If we do this, the accomplishment of the goal is assured. Remember: progress toward the goal is exactly proportional to the purity of our means.
These means are prayer, the implementation of a training course for new leaders, fidelity to the cell work principles, the transmission of the vision, and the constant care of those involved in the cell work. As we manage to care for these details in a meticulously way, we’ll be assuring the attainment of the aimed goals.

Following up on new converts.

On several occasions it has been mentioned in this blog that the training of new leaders is a key factor to cell multiplication. And we must remember that new leaders can only emerge from those who are already members in your church (attending the cell groups, etc.). Yet, often churches stagnate in their potential leadership pool because they are not seeing new people come to Christ, connecting to the cells, and participating in the training process.
One of the key problems is that new converts are not given appropriate follow-up. I believe it’s very important that a church has a plan to receive the new convert, care for him or her, and guide the new convert to become a disciple of Jesus by entering the training process. The cell plays a critical role in preparing the new beliver to serve the Lord. Each new convert should be incorporated into the training process with the goal of making him or her a future leader.
By doing this, there will always be new blood in the cell model. The new converts will be oxygenating the model and allowing new leaders to emerge.
Does such a mechanism exists in your church?

Counseling in the cell church.
When a church has thousands of members, the counseling ministry can not follow the traditional model of a few pastors counseling each one of the members. It wouldn’t take long to discover that needs weren’t being met and that new measures would have to be implmented. At Elim, we work under the Jethro Model. I’m not just talking about structure. I’m talking about the core essence of Jethro’s counsel: that each person receives adequate attention. In our system, each leader is responsible for providing counseling to his or her cell members. When a case exceeds the leader’s advising ability or if the leader doesn’t know what to do, the leader transfers the case to the supervisor.
If the supervisor feels that his counseling ability has been exceeded, he transfers the case to the Zone Pastor. Normally, most cases are solved at this level. However, there are situations that are still too complicated or require more specialized help process. In this scenario, the Zone Pastor refers these difficult cases to the District Pastor or directly to me.
The model is not overly rigid. A person can go directly to his Zone Pastor and be cared for. Obviously, many would want to be ministered to by the Senior Pastor, but most people at our church were born again within the Jethro model and thus it’s very normal for them to follow the step by step process.
Without the Jethro model, it would be impossible to truly minister to every case—even if each day was devoted to counseling.

The Simplicity factor.
I appreciate the many comments and interest shown on my blog about our equipping track (training).
I think the main characteristic of our training course is simplicity. When Harold Weitsz (Little Falls Christian Centre) asked me about our training course, I told him that it was simple material compared to his stupendous training course. To my surprise he told me that simplicity is exactly what he considers to be the most important element in a training course, and that he wished his course was simpler.
A few days before the Cell Symposium, Ralph Neighbour also asked me about our training course. Knowing the detail in his own equipping track, I once again answered that our course was very simple. Again, I was surprised when he told me that simplicity is the most important element of an effective training course.
After hearing the opinions of such great men of God, I am tending to think that one of the key virtue of effective training is the ability to reach all people, regardless of their previous level of education.
Right now, our course is only in Spanish, but are looking at the possibility of an English version for those who want it.

The training of leaders.

One of the greatest gaps in our model for several years was that we did not have an appropriate training course for leaders. Our model took care of the people for four weeks after their conversion, but then they were left on their own for several months, waiting for them to have the sufficient maturity to be trained as leaders.
Obviously, those months of waiting were fatal, representing the loss of rich human potential. For several years I was aware of it and started reading the various training materials that existed. At the end, I concluded that we had to make our own.
I developed our training and started to implement it a year ago. It is a training course that lasts six months. It takes every person from conversion to leadership. After the first year of implementing it, we have had very satisfactory results. We have managed to train over 400 new leaders.
However, because of the year’s desertions, the positive growth has been 256 new leaders. We hadn’t had such good growth for several years. The attendance increase has been around 5,000 new attendees in cells during this same period.
Now, I have no doubt that although the training course requires time and dedication, it is very worthwhile. I’ve discovered a direct correlation between the focus on training and the development of leaders, groups, and attendance.

Desertion of leaders.

The desertion of cell leaders is an unavoidable reality. As in any army at war where dropouts do occur, there are also those who fall-out in the battle of faith.
Desertions affect the multiplication of cells. Cell multiplication occurs only when leaders multiply. But if new leaders have to be continually used to replace those who dropout, much of the multiplying force will be lost.
Some desertions occur for unavoidable reasons. For example, change of address, death, and emigration. But another part of drop-outs occur for a common reason: lack of discipleship. Ideally, every leader should be also a disciple. However, this alwasy the case. A disciple of Christ is someone who follows the example and footsteps of the Master, which includes obeying His Word and sacrificially serving Him.
Cell churches should extend their effort widely to make every believer a disciple. By doing this, the level of desertion will be greatly reduced and only those cases that are strictly unavoidable will remain. Yetm if new leaders are just trained and a cell is handed to them, desertions will continue. The goal is to shape them into disciples who will live consister, godly lives for Jesus.

The missions and cell churches.
Most of the people that haven’t been reached today are located in Muslim countries or in countries that close themselves to the Gospel. Under those conditions, is not possible to perform a traditional missionary work, which is to plant a new church.
Missionary work must be done slowly, carefully and practically in clandestinity. This is where the work of cell churches is important since the members of these churches are trained and accustomed to delivering the Gospel person to person and from house to house.
Joel Comiskey has said: "The same work that a leader performs multiplying a cell in his country is to be done in the missionary field." From that standpoint, every leader is potentially a missionary.
Cellular churches that have focused, up to now, on growth and on themselves must lift their sight to direct their acquired capabilities towards the evangelization of the unreached people.
Topics like this are being developed at the Third Latin American Summit of Cell Church Missions Network, in Monterrey this current week.
What do you think about these ideas?

Reaping the harvest through cell ministry.
Most of the conversions at Elim take place in the cell groups. Although we try to have a balance between cell and celebration, there’s no doubt that more people receive Jesus as Lord and Savior in the cell.
On many occasions I’ve said to the church that those who are born-again in the celebration services have first received love and friendship in the cell. . Actually, exceedingly few people just walk into our church on their own. I have no doubt that most have first heard the gospel on various occasions in the cell group. When they come forward in one of our services, it’s simply the final process of having heard the gospel many times.
In reality, salvation comes as a result of the church cooperating together, both in cell and celebration. The cell leader sows the seed, the preacher waters, but ultimately God gives the increase.

Dealing with a Leader that doesn’t multiply the cell.

We soon realized after beginning cell ministry that there were leaders who failed to multiply their cells at the pace that others did. Not knowing what to do, we sent a fax to Pastor David Cho, pastor of Yoido Full Gospel Church, asking him what to do with such leaders. He responded fairly quickly: “First make sure that the leader has learned the system’s principles. If he doesn’t achieve multiplication, after being properly taught, he must be sent to fast for a week. If after doing, so he still can’t multiply his cell, he must be suspended as a leader”.
For a while these recommendations were followed to the letter. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn’t. Today after all these years, I believe the key issue lies in training. Every leader is able to multiply the cell if he or she is properly trained and guided. I believe that multiplication is not reached by removing leaders, but by training them for the multiplication task.
The supervisor’s work plays a key role in this; he must be attentive to every leader. This will allow him to identify each leader’s weaknesses in order to train him and to bring him to an acceptable work level.
What is your experience in this field?

Cell church and evangelists.

Cell models produce great results in terms of new converts. Newborn believers are so abundant that one question could be asked: do we need evangelists in the cell church era?
The main objection to the effort of setting up mass activities with emblematic evangelists is that these activities demand large investments and leave few results. Each crusade night 100s of people profess their conversion, but a few weeks after the evangelist has left, little fruit remains.
Instead, cell work doesn’t require extraordinary efforts, and it isn’t an occasional but a constant activity that continues to reach people for Christ each week.
But, there is no antagonism between cell church and evangelists. Rather, there is a relationship of cooperation. The church is never better prepared to take advantage of the results of an evangelistic activity than when its’ work is a cellular work.
The evaporation of the results of large crusades is because traditional churches are not prepared to maintain the results. What can a traditional church that receives 100s of new members in only one week do? If there is no priesthood of all the believers, most likely the church will lose them.
Instead, a cell church is trained and prepared to receive 100s of new members. The era of the great evangelists has not ended with the cell church, rather, when the church is a cell church it is prepared more than ever to take advantage of the abundant fruit that the Evangelist leaves.

The school of ministry.
Cell Ministry allows Christians to function as actual ministers of the gospel. For example, the leader develops the cell lesson, with a special emphasis on reaching the unconverted. To make this happen, it’s essential for him or her to receive training in how to evangelize.
The leader might also be called upon to function as a counselor. This requires sensitivity to those in the cell. Experience is the best teacher to grow in this discipline.
The leader also functions in the capacity of disciple-maker. When a person comes to Christ, the leader needs to assure that the new convert matures in the Christian life.
And of course, the leader must guide the dynamics of the group, making sure there’s a proper flow between prayer, worship, and Word.
All of these disciplines prepare the leader to influence others. What the leader is called upon to accomplish is exactly what pastors are asked to do. That’s why cell ministry provides such a wonderful environment to produce ministers for the harvest.
