Goals’ components.

One characteristic of cell churches is that they work with goals to achieve the multiplication and growth. But it is important to know the two components of a goal.
The first component is the target. This element answers the question “What?” What is pursued? What is wanted? This is where the Pastor should set the target that wants to achieve.
The second component is regarding time. Answers the question "When?" This got to do with the deadline date for when you want to achieve the target. Just as with the first component the Pastor is who should set the final date.
A true goal is the one that combines both elements. Establishes not only what you want to achieve but also states when it’ll be reached. If one of these two elements are missing it isn’t a true goal anymore. If you want to get to a point but you don’t say when, that could be on the next year or on the next century. If you set a date, but you don’t know what you want on that date, you wont achieve nothing else but to grow old.

Does your goals have these two components?

Relationships with communities.
The evangelization work through cells becomes more effective when Christians penetrate the various areas of society. For that reason, we encourage our members to actively take part solving the problems of their communities.
Several Christians have taken our call seriously and are part of their neighborhoods’ boards. Some of these boards are working on solving problems such as of the water service, projects to provide electricity, and paving of streets.
The involvement of Christians in these projects place them in a privileged position to let their light and love shine toward their neighbors. Usually, Christians end up taking on the most important positions as Presidents or Treasurers; which is the result of the good testimony and sincere work of the brethren.
Others have become involved in recycling. Some have come to establish small businesses that employ other Christians. And one of them showed such dedication to this cause that recently won the elections as a member of his City Council.
When Christians connect in this way with their communities, the work of giving a good testimony onto the people and leading them to Christ is much more efficient.

The snack.

We learned our cellular model from Pastor Cho’s books. We found there that the snack was one of the characteristics of the cell meeting. Pastor Cho shared in his books about the difficulties that had taken place at the beginning of his cell work because of the competition going on among his members for offering the most delicious snack. That led him to take measures, limiting the snack to just tea and cookies.

Based on that teaching, we took the idea of offering the guests the modest snack there could be. In El Salvador’s culture the practice of having tea and cookies is not a custom, but there are several alternatives that could be used.

The idea was to avoid limited financial resources people from thinking that they could not be hosts because of not being able to offer a meal at the end of the cell meeting. Keeping it simple, it is much easier for people to agree into becoming new hosts.

Nevertheless, when a cell multiplies, in our system this becomes an occasion to celebrate. For this reason, the brethren of the cell meeting prepare a full meal with the traditional Salvadoran dish: the “pupusas”. Sometimes there may be chicken, tamales and everything that is available to offer. The cell multiplication is a party and not sadness.

However, the idea of the snack being no more than an excuse to retain the guests for a little longer to strengthen friendship ties with them, always remains.

What is your experience in this field?

Multiplication: sadness or joy?

When a cell reaches the multiplication point it should be divided to make way for a new younger cell that’ll continue with the Gospel’s expansion process.
Sometimes, however, multiplication can be a source of sadness for the cell members. They know that they will all have to take different directions after sharing and fostering a relationship of mutual friendship. This sadness can even reach the extreme level of becoming a barrier for multiplication when the members wish to continue their comradeship for an indefinite time.
For the multiplication to be a joy and not sadness, it should be sown from the outset into the hearts of the cell members, that the goal of any cell is the multiplication. Fellowship is not the ultimate goal. When multiplication is positioned as the primary goal the people will expect to reach that moment.
The multiplication day must be a day of joy and mutual congratulations. Multiplication should be seen for what it is: the expansion of the message of salvation among the lost. Those who experience resistance to multiplication due to the fellowship that has being developed are the ones that do not have clarity on the true purposes of the cell model.
