En Elim habíamos tratado ya
varias veces, quizá unas tres, de poner a andar el modelo celular. Esos
esfuerzos fracasaron sin que pudiéramos identificar la razón del por qué.
Comencé de nuevo a leer los libros del pastor Cho tratando de encontrar la
clave que hacía que a él le funcionara. Al leer con cuidado los libros me di
cuenta que un elemento importante era el esfuerzo que los coreanos hacían por
ganar la amistad de sus vecinos.
Pensé que esa era la clave del
modelo. En esa ocasión, hice un proyecto más cuidadoso y con mayor instrucción.
Enseñé varias veces a la iglesia sobre la importancia de ganarse a los vecinos
y amistades con acciones de amor. Enseñé a la iglesia sobre los pasajes de la
Biblia que trataban ese tema. Al proyecto le puse de nombre “Plan Kalós”. De la
palabra griega Kalós que significa: bonito, agradable, amable, etc. Los
cristianos debían ser agradables, amables, serviciales, etc. para poder ganar a
sus amigos para Cristo.
Nuevamente nos organizamos en
grupos pequeños en las casas y comenzamos a poner en práctica el plan. Las
personas comentaban sobre los amigos a los que estaban trabajando bajo el plan
Kalós. No obstante, el tiempo fue pasando y no tuvimos resultados. Después de
unos meses abandonamos el esfuerzo. Para mí ese era el final. El último intento
que hacía por trabajar con células. A partir de ese momento pensé que las
células funcionaban en Corea pero no en El Salvador.
Hoy, revisando los que hicimos
con el Plan Kalós, me doy cuenta que era un esfuerzo muy bien organizado y que
tomaba en cuenta muchos de los valores y principios del modelo celular. Es
cuando más cerca habíamos llegado. Pero ¿por qué no dio resultado? Muy
sencillo, solo se trataba de darle un poco más de tiempo. Si hubiera seguido
por esa ruta las cosas hubieran funcionado muy bien. La lección es que para
tener resultados no es suficiente con conocer el cómo. Es muy importante tener
persistencia. Esa es la clave: persistencia.

The importance of persistente.
In Elim we had already tried several times, maybe about three times, to
set up the cell model. Those efforts failed without being able to identify the
reason why. I started back to read Pastor Cho’s books trying to find the key
that made them work for him. As I carefully read the books, I realized that an
important element was the effort that Koreans made to win their neighbors
friendship.
I thought that was the key to the model. On that occasion, I made a more
careful and more educated project. I taught the church for several times about
the importance of winning neighbors and friends with actions of love. I taught
the church on the Bible passages that dealt with the topic. I named the project
"Kalos Plan". From the Greek word Kalos that means: nice, pleasant,
kind, etc. Christians should be pleasant, friendly, kind, helpful etc. in order
to win their friends to Christ.
Once again we were organized in small groups in the houses and started
to implement the plan. People commented about the friends they were working
with under the Kalos plan. However, time was passing and we didn’t see any
results. After a few months we abandoned the effort. For me that was the end.
The last attempt I was making to work with cells. From that moment on I thought
that cells worked in Korea but not in El Salvador.
Today, as I review the Kalos Plan, I realize it was a very well
organized effort that took into account many of the values and principles of
the cell model. It was the closer we had got. But why didn’t it work? Quite
simply, it only needed a little more time. If I had followed that route, things
would have worked very well. The lesson is that in order to see results, to
know the how is not sufficient. It is very important to have persistence.
