The Leader’s spiritual preparation.

The adequate preparation that the leader has had is the key aspect for a successful cell meeting. This preparation is not only about getting familiar with the day’s topic, but in meeting the spiritual conditions that the work of leading people to Jesus requires.

Prayer is a key factor. The deepness in prayer guarantees the results that can be achieved. Prayer should not be made in a routine type of way, but instead presenting to God the day by day situation in an everyday dialogue.

The reading of the Bible is another key factor. People are always asking questions about several topics. Therefore, the leader must be prepared to provide guidance and answers. Nevertheless, the leader should always be very honest. If a leader doesn’t know the proper answer to a situation, he shouldn’t hesitate to transfer the case to the Pastor.

In our twenty-first century, meditation is an almost disappeared exercise. Meditation is not prayer. Meditation has to do more with a personal introspection and the search for answers to questions such as: What does God want from me? What’s the next step? What I do follows the proper motivations?
Questions like these will find their answers if we can set some time aside to leave the daily routine and dive into meditation.

Cells in times of the influenza
Since the recent outbreak of human influenza type A H1N1, preventive measures have been undertaken. Part of them is to limit numerous people’s meetings.
In Mexico where the outbreak took place, the soccer matches are held at a closed stadium. Projections of films, musicals, theater, and all type of activities that concentrate groups of people were also canceled.
Churches are also considered within that. Since last Sunday it was taken the measure of suspending the churches’ services located in infection focus’ areas. Some of those are cell churches and our friends. Through phone calls they have informed us that services in the church building are suspended; but have continued to meet in cells.
Because cells are small groups of people, there are no sanitary impediments to continue to meet. In that way, attention is given to people that, in the middle of this epidemic, are seeking God as their hope and protection. Even though churches’ buildings are closed, Christians’ houses remain open to receive the thirsty for Christ. All this wouldn’t be possible outside the cellular model.

MODELOS Y PRINCIPIOS.

Models and principles.
There are several cells’ working models. Sometimes there has been tried to present a model as the best one in opposition to others. Some pastors are moved by a feelling that’ll make them jump from one model to another thinking that by doing this they’ll gain the growth they’ve been longing for. Switching from models sometimes affects deeply the cell work and end up disconcerting the church’s members.
It is important to underline that the key is not the model but to persevere in the cell work principles’. There is no magical model that’ll lead by it self to a guaranteed success. Only perseverance and work can bring as a result progress in the cause of Christ.
It is not bad to inquire and to know about the existing models, but switching with ease from one model to another must be avoided. This work’s principles must be understood and applied to every church’s particular conditions. Then, the key is the perseverance and faithfulness to those principles.

OTRAS METAS

Other goals.

Besides the growth targets, other types of targets can also be set for cell leaders. I know that not everyone agrees to collect offerings at the cells’ meetings. But, we have done it following Pastor Cho’s model since the beginning of our work.
As a church with almost no wealthy people in it we have no choice but to work, sometimes, with economic goals for leaders. Our strength lies not in having some people with great economical resources but in having a lot of people with few economical resources.
When we needed to buy a new property for the construction of a larger church building, we needed to collect one and a half million dollars in twelve months. That was an impossible amount to collect. So we took around 50,000 of our brethren to the property we wanted to buy, where we prayed and asked God for the miracle of providing the money.
Besides, we determined that every leader could find 20 people to give a ten dollars contribution within a 12 months period. Since the church’s attendance of brethren involved in the cell work is 70,000; it was enough if each one of them could find two people within twelve months to give a ten dollars contribution each.
It was a real goal: a target, to buy the property; within a period of time, in the next twelve months. After that time the money was gathered and the miracle was completed. A year later we went back to meet again on the property but this time to give thanks to the Lord for having made the miracle come true. This happened between 2007 and 2008.
